Gabija spotted that Walmart unveiled a new store of the future in N.Y. The shop is equipped with AI-enabled cameras and interactive displays, that keep tracking which items are out of stock or have been stalled for too long and need to be replaced.
On top of that, Algirdas shared that last year, Walmart and Carrefour adopted blockchain technology to trace items from farm to shelf. After a few globally known food scandals that have happened in the past couple of years, traceability of products is one of the most critical trends nowadays.
What a shame! Edvardas has detected that National Geographic, Fast Company, The Guardian and even Material District have published an almost fake study that biodegradable and compostable plastic bags don’t biodegrade. Thanks to Packaging Europe who spread the light on this mislead.
Consumers don’t like novelties but can’t live without them. They want more limited editions, Algirdas believes. Also, even better, if you’re sophisticated – troll your main competitor. For instance, Burger King introduced Pissed or Don’t Give A Fuck Meals, trolling McDonald’s. Again. How cool is that!
One of the largest manufacturers of closures Bericap and technology company ThinFilm, partnered to implement manufacturing caps with NFC. With a production scale, it will bring reasonable price and easy use. Algirdas predicts that after a couple of years, even a bottle of mineral water will be able to use NFC.
Lacoste continued their support in protecting nature and wildlife for the 2nd year in a row. The number of polos made of each species relates to the actual number remaining in the wild. That’s only 3,520 of all ten species chosen in 2019. Valerija has appreciated this concept sooo much!
Gabija says hello to Color Dot – new font with dots of different colors. With this project, author Martin Grasser seeks to draw attention to the amount of unnecessary information on the Internet and wants to create a single, universal language for the whole world.
Algirdas has spotted a freshly released trend report by Fjord. Readers can review and evaluate it right after reading – adding scared, sad, curious or happy – emotion buttons at the end. BTW, the content is worth reading.
And one more packaging trend review from Luxe Pack by J.Walter Thompson Intelligence. Gabija was excited about Paptic – a new material made from wood fibres that combines the recyclability of paper with the durability and reusability of plastic.
