Midaus Nektaras mead liquor, 2016

Task & situation

Create a brand logo for a series of honey-based liquors and a label for Mead Nectar, the first drink of the series.

We came up with an idea to create a modern yet ornamental look: it should appeal to both senior buyers seeking tradition and youngsters in search of a visually pleasing drink to try.

The new design – the first one under the Honey Legends brand – would be adapted for an existing bottle.

Mead liquors have a strong historic background: they’re traditional, if not ancient, however not too popular nowadays. The typical design in this category has an old-school feel to it, while the product is often excessively decorated or comes in a special bottle.

The client wanted to enter the category filled with souvenir packaging without having to create a special bottle.

Solutions

The logo for Honey Legends was created to resemble an ancient wax seal from the days when mead was an expensive drink, highly regarded by noblemen.

For the label, a monogram was chosen to reflect the historicity and splendour. Letters M and N were combined for Mead Nectar. The result is a symbol that’s both modern and highly decorative. In the future, newly introduced drinks would have their own monograms.

The colour and shape of the label evoke a feel of ancient scripts. Yellowish paper and various effects including foil, tactile UV varnish and embossing provide the label with a premium look and make it stand out in this overly decorative category.
